Before beginning to work at Solve It!, all of our tutors had to pass our rigorous interview process and master our best-practice teaching methods in our comprehensive 20-hour training program. Here are some of the core members of our team. As you will read in their bios, our tutors are simply on a level that you will not find at any other tutoring service.
Igor, our fearless leader
Igor, the owner and lead tutor at Solve It!, is a truly world-class math tutor. Born into a family deeply versed in the Russian mathematical tradition and growing up as one of the elite math performers in the Midwest, Igor could see just how much room for improvement there was in the American math education system. He has made it his mission to transform American secondary math education with his own state of the art adaptive math learning software, the Solve It! Learning System.
Igor has tutored over 1150 math students, consistently producing seemingly miraculous results, traveled the world to experience leading math education programs, and completed projects for top national EduTech companies. The Solve It! tutoring center is the laboratory where Igor and his team of expert tutors work tirelessly to perfect their best-practice math teaching methods and implement them in the Solve It! Learning System. So, when you work with a Solve It! math tutor, you’re not only getting the best math tutoring that your money can buy, you’re also doing your part to change American math education!
Iris (level 3 tutor)
Iris epitomizes the skill set and philosophy at Solve It! In high school, Iris studied college-level math, and was a member of the Albanian International Math Olympiad (meaning she was among the top six math students in Albania!) Iris graduated from Amherst College with a double major in Mathematics and Psychology and completed a Masters in Math Education at the University of Pennsylvania. She has served as a math teacher in Massachusetts, as well as in Albania and Croatia.
Iris is passionate about fostering competence, confidence, and enjoyment of math in others. Iris believes that the two most important keys to lasting success in math are (1) focusing on deep conceptual understanding and (2) developing a growth mindset where each student consistently strives to achieve his/her full potential.
Iris is skilled and experienced at tutoring pre-algebra, algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, pre-calculus, calculus I & II, statistics, and competition math.
Ryan (level 4 tutor)
Ryan was the first tutor Igor hired for good reason. He sets the standard for math knowledge, tutoring skills, and professionalism. Ryan earned a B.S. in mathematics from the University of Arizona and has also completed many graduate-level math courses. Ryan has had extensive teaching experience, and has tutored close to 1000 students. He has been a full time professional math tutor privately and through St. Louis Community College, as well as a taught many math courses at the University of Florida and University of Arizona. Ryan has tutored many Solve It! students over the years with 100% satisfaction and tons of repeat business.
Ryan is skilled and experienced at tutoring pre-algebra, algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, pre-calculus, calculus I, II, and III, differential equations, statistics, ACT, SAT, SAT Subject Tests, and GRE Math.
Yanming (level 4 tutor)
Yanming is not only a skilled and experienced math tutor, but he is also a rockstar science tutor. He has 20 years of tutoring experience and five years of math teaching experience at multiple St. Louis high schools. He also worked for years as a physics and biology instructor for The Princeton Review.
Yanming won a gold medal at the the International Biology Olympiad in Uppsala, Sweden in 1999. He has a B.S. in biology from Peking University in Bejing, China and a M.A. in Biological Chemistry from Washington University in St. Louis. Since graduating, Yanming has been a full time professional math and science tutor and teacher.
Yanming is skilled and experienced at tutoring algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, pre-calculus, calculus I and II, statistics, ACT, SAT, SAT Subject Tests, physics, chemistry, and biology.
Ketaki (level 3 tutor)
Ketaki is a real hidden gem of a tutor. She has been a professional math tutor for 12 years. She has spent years successfully preparing many high school students for the Joint Entrance Exams for the India Institutes of Technology. The rigor of the math exams and selectivity of IIT (2% acceptance rate) is virtually unparalleled in the United States.
Ketaki has plenty of experience tutoring the traditional areas of middle- and high school math, but her real passion is competition math. In fact, before she ever got her first Solve It! student, she read and solved every problem in Competition Math for Middle School and Art of Problem Solving, Volume 1, and mastered many, many practice math competitions.
Ketaki is skilled and experienced at tutoring algebra I, geometry, algebra II, pre-calculus, calculus I & II, ACT, SAT, SAT Subject Tests, and comprehensive competition math coaching at the middle- and high school levels, particularly for the AMC 8, MATHCOUNTS, the AMC 10, and the AMC 12.
Theresa (level 2 tutor)
Theresa has had a long and distinguished career as a math educator in St. Louis. Her undying enthusiasm for helping kids learn math brought her to Solve It! and we’re lucky to have her!
Theresa holds a B.S. in education and a Missouri certification in Secondary Mathematics Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia, as well as an M.A. in Mathematics from St. Louis University. She worked for 22 years as a professor of mathematics at St. Louis Community College, Florissant Valley, and served as the Math Department Chair. She also served as the president of the Math Educators of Greater St. Louis organization. During the last 20 years, Theresa has spoken in and attended a staggering 88 math education conferences and presentations!
While Theresa has taught and tutored many areas of math over the years, her greatest degree of skill and experience is in pre-algebra, algebra 1, algebra 2, and elementary/intermediate/college algebra.
Naima (level 4 tutor)
Naima's tutoring skills are as exceptional as her resume. She is the rare tutor who is highly skilled in her subject matter, adored by students (seriously, we've had several parents call in just to rant about how much their kids like her!), and consistently produces awesome grade and score improvements for her students.
Naima earned a B.S. and M.S. with Honors in Physics from Ecole Normale Supérieure in Algiers, Algeria. Additionally, she has an M.A. in Physics from the State University of New York, Stony Brook, where she also completed 54 credit hours of PhD-level Physics work. She has over 10 years of teaching and tutoring experience in math and physics at both the college and high school levels in the U.S., Saudi Arabia, and Algeria, and is especially experienced with the AP Physics and AP Calculus exams.
Naima is skilled and experienced at tutoring algebra I, algebra II, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus I & II, and TONS of physics.
Jennifer (level 3 tutor)
Jennifer has worked for 23 years as a professional math teacher and tutor. Like the rest of our team at Solve It!, her fundamental approach to teaching mathematics is to teach for intuitive understanding. Jennifer’s genuine enthusiasm and passion for teaching math is contagious to her students.
Jennifer currently teaches math at Belleville West High School in Belleville, Illinois. She also tutors daily all levels of math through trigonometry and works with all levels of students from those with learning disabilities to students in honors classes. She is a state trainer for Illinois Common Core Math Standards, although she also believes that Common Core methods must also be balanced with more traditional teaching methods.
Jennifer is skilled and experienced in tutoring 6th and 7th grade math, pre-algebra, algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, and trigonometry.
Ben (level 1 tutor)
Ben is most definitely not your average Ladue High School student. He completed the entire Kumon math curriculum, including attaining full mastery of calculus 1 & 2 in 6th grade!
He qualified for the AIME in 2016, won numerous awards at MATHCOUNTS, MEGSL, Interstellar, Math League, and the AMCs, and easily recieved perfect scores on his SAT/ACT/AP math exams.
Having been personally tutored by Igor since 5th grade, Ben has an exceptionally deep understanding of secondary math and an intimate knowledge of Igor's best-practice teaching methods. Ben has been passing on his wisdom on to the next generation as a Solve It! and Kumon tutor since 2015.
Ben is skilled at tutoring algebra I & II, geometry, pre-calculus, and middle school-level competition math for contests including the AMC 8, MATHCOUNTS, and Math League.
Matthew (level 1 tutor)
Matthew is one of the most gifted students that Igor has ever had the privilege of tutoring. Matthew has truly excelled in math since the 3rd grade. He received a perfect score of 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam in 7th grade and was a top performer on the AMC 8 and MATHCOUNTS in 7th and 8th grades.
Matthew lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Igor has tutored him online since 8th grade. Since then, Matthew has risen to be among the top 200 high school math students in the U.S., as evidenced by his AMC 10 & 12, and AIME performances. Matthew has attended numerous programs for gifted math students, including the prestigious Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Institutes. Having worked personally with Igor for years, as well as having tutored for Solve It!, Matthew has all of the skills to be an amazing tutor.
Matthew is qualified to tutor competition math for contests such as the AMCs, MATHCOUNTS, and the AIME, as well as any topic in algebra through calculus 1 & 2.
Carol (our manager)
Carol is the General Manager at Solve It! Carol’s role is to make sure that the students, parents, and even the tutors get the absolute most from Solve It! An experienced educator herself, Carol is intimately familiar with the strengths of each of our tutors, as well as the needs of our clients. When you first contact Solve It!, Carol will personally assess your needs and help you to find the most compatible tutor. After that, she will always be just a phone call or email away if you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns.
Carol comes to Solve It! with years of experience and training in teaching and tutoring. She has a B.A. in Psychology from Boston University, Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa, and a M.S. in Communicative Disorders/Learning Disabilities from Northwestern University. She has worked as both a tutor and a classroom teacher in the Andover Public School System in Andover, MA. Carol has also tutored at the Kumon Math and Reading Centers in Clayton and Kirkwood, MO.
